Tia Finch, the winner of Bournemouth University’s Writing Wizardry Prize, was delighted and somewhat amazed when she came face to face with her prize – a stack of wonderful books as tall as her!
Tia’s wonderful short story (about two sisters who find themselves falling, unexpectedly, into a land of sweets and ice cream, but then don’t know how to get home) scooped first prize of the Fresher Writing Prize category for children of nine years and under but, as she was unable to attend the awards ceremony on the night, she recently collected the tower of books from her local Waterstones in Colchester.
Emma Scattergood, editorial director of Fresher Publishing said: “We were delighted with the standard of entries that we received into the competition. Writing a story in under 500 words takes skill and imagination, and Tia showed plenty of that!”
Tia’s parents were equally delighted when they came to collect the books – although a little concerned about how they were going to fit them all into the car.
Fresher Publishing’s next Writing Wizardry competition will open in October. Keep an eye on our competitions page and like us on Facebook, to keep up to date.
Meanwhile, Fresher’s Writing Witches are happy to take their free creative writing workshops into schools in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. If you would like them to visit your school, please see details on the Children’s page.
